When you add the image, you’ll be taken back to the blog post where you can see how it’s fitting into the text.

Sometimes, it won’t have a border so it will be crammed up against the text. To change anything (including spacing), click on the image and again on the Edit image icon. If you click on Advanced Settings, you can give it some spacing. Under the Image Properties section, you have the option to give it a border or add some vertical and horizontal space between the image and the text. You can play around with it, but usually a 5 or 10 in the vertical and horizontal spaces works just fine.

When you’ve finished, click Update and see how the image works within your blog post. You can delete the image by clicking on it and just hitting your delete button on your keyboard. You can use images in different areas of your blog – in the posts, on the pages, in your header and footer, and also in your sidebar. Just make sure you check the final output to see if it’s aligned right and hyperlinked the way you want it before leaving it alone for the public’s view.

There are many sites that offer a free classified ad service. Kijii and Craigslist are two of the most popular ways to advertise your business. There are disadvantages to this method however. You’ll need to keep your classifieds up to date as most ads have an expiry date of a week meaning you will need to repost them each time.

2. Posting on Forums
Make sure you only join the forums that bear some relevance to your business. You will then be able to submit posts to the forum that advertise your services or products. There is only one small caveat. When you advertise do not make it too obvious. When you are new to a forum you need to start slowly and establish a personality so that people come to trust what you say and get to know you. That way they will be more likely to show an interest in your business when you introduce it to them. Of course, this type of free advertising can take up a lot of time. However, forums provide a good method of keeping you up to date with the area in which you do business, helping you to keep on top of latest developments and news. This can only be of benefit to you and your business prospects.

3. Submission of Articles
Writing articles is a great way of generating free advertising. You simply start writing articles based around the key areas of your website and post them to article repositories. An example of a good repository to use is Ezine which allows you to add website links in your resource box. This allows you to advertise to a wide range of people, gain higher ratings on search engines, increase the visitors to your site, and you also get access to precious non-reciprocal links.

4. Free Directories
There is not a great difference between directories and article repositories. They allow you to list your website using relevant categories across a number of directories. For those with websites covering a specialized field, listing your website in niche categories and directories will provide you with targeted customers.

5. Reciprocal links
These kinds of links are not as sought after by the search engines as one way (non-reciprocal) links can be. However, reciprocal links still have their uses and can be good for increasing traffic. And the most important thing to note is they are free. First find the sites that fit your niche and that you would be happy to be linked with. Contact the owners of these sites and make a suggestion that you submit reciprocal links on your websites. And there we have it! Your site is now getting more coverage and hits from their audience too. Remember to keep an eye on these types of links. You want the link to work for you and there is no point in linking to a site that doesn’t exist anymore. Also, be careful of linking to sites that contain material that could be deemed as bad taste. You don’t want to give your website a bad name.

6. Opt-in emails
Another method of free advertising is opt-in emails. These can assist by converting your site’s visitors into customers, and customers and want to do repeat business. If you have an email list option which allows people to opt-in to when they make a purchase, you effectively build a customer mailing list. Opt-in emails also have another advantage. These emails are sent out to targeted customers who want to be contacted and have an interest in your site and your business. You can develop advertising campaigns that will attract customers to place multiple orders and it’s all completely free.

7. Properly SEO optimized site
Search Engine Optimization or SEO, is not exactly free advertising. However, by using SEO you will effectively make your website easier to find and therefore increase the amount of visitors to your site. Search engines form the most common method for customers to locate products and services online. Increasing your ranking power on search engines is probably the most important type of free advertising you can use.

If you have ever worked as a bookkeeper or in some similar capacity, you can work at home as a bookkeeper, keeping the books for local businesses and perhaps even online businesses. This is an ideal position for the mom who wants to make a nice income at home but who wants to work exclusively at home.

Tutor

Many former teachers are discovering the earning potential of being an online tutor. In this capacity, they tutor students who are having problems in a particular subject area. Most of the work is done exclusively online, reducing the need to travel to work or see clients in the home.

Are you selling, though?

All of these jobs we talk about above require a certain level of marketing. You must market yourself in order to make yourself desirable to clients. That means you are selling something – yourself. If you are so uncomfortable with the concept of selling anything that you don’t think you can even sell yourself and your services, then working at home might not be ideal for you unless you are employed and simply work at home for your employer.

But if you decide to work at home in your own business, you must learn to market yourself. You must learn and accept that you have to market, or sell, yourself to make yourself appealing to clients. That’s simply part of the game.

Transitioning from being a mom who works outside the home to one who works at home can be tough. Or, if you’ve been at stay-at-home mom, it can be difficult on your family, who must make the transition from seeing you as very accessible to them to being concerned with other matters.

Ask yourself these hard questions about transition. Are you ready to work at home? Can you handle the isolation? Do you think you can be a work at home mom and still see to your family’s needs? You are asked to send money (usually $29.99) and in return, you will get a list if of businesses you might contact to try and get their envelope stuffing business. The reality is that few, if any, companies hire people to stuff their envelopes. And these days, with more and more people relying on online methods to contact potential customers and clients, they need this service even less.

Sometimes people who pay the money will be given information on how to advertise in newspapers and online for people to start an envelope stuffing business. You make $29.99 off these poor people as they contact you for more information.

If you see this offer, or it’s sent to you directly, it’s best to ignore it, no matter how tempting.

How to spot a scam

It’s not easy to spot a scam. If you are desperate to work at home and looking for something that’s already set up for you (in that you don’t have to actually start your own business), you might be tempted by these offers to work at home.

There are several criteria to help you determine if you are dealing with unscrupulous people who are tying to scam you with make money online opportunities.

First, if an offer promises big pay for easy work, it might be a scam. The reality is that few people can get paid big dollars for easy work and little work. Big pay usually is a reward for big work, so while it might be temping to think that you can get paid big dollars for little work, you have to objectively consider the possibilities there.

Any offer that promises you a lot of work for a fee is likely not on the up and up. You shouldn’t have to pay to work. You shouldn’t have to pay for a job. Of course, some businesses (like businesses where you sell products as a consultant for a company) will require a small up-front investment. In that case, however, you are investing in your own business, not the business of others. You are investing to get the products you need to run your business and that is decidedly different than paying to get a job.

Ask questions. If you get vague answers, or your questions are ignored completely, that should set off a few warning bells with you. You should be able to dig up a street address for the company, the names of the relevant players in the company and you should be able to check the company’s history with the Better Business Bureau and other such agencies.

Don’t sign up for a job or to work with a company without talking to someone on the phone or person. Don’t settle for the information available on a website in the FAQs. Instead, make sure you can make contact with someone you can talk to one-on-one (not in email). If you can’t do that, you might want to look elsewhere.

If you do need to make an investment in product or materials (not for the job itself) use your credit card. Don’t write a check or use a debit card because those will be harder to get protection with. If you use a credit card, you get protection from the credit card company if things go wrong.

Do your research and understand the various risks and rewards of the company you are considering there are many bad deals out there and many make money online scams, but if you do your research, you should be able to find the right opportunity for you.

When I first became involved in marketing and advertising, I thought it would be exciting. Working for an advertising marketing firm seemed like the best way to put my talents to good use. You see, I am a highly creative person who loves anything having to do with language and communication. Although I am a good speaker, I am even better when I have time to prepare. Working in a guerilla advertising agency has given me some of the most amazing stories that I have ever had to tell. I used to feel left out when I would go out with friends and they would all tell stories from their lives. One of my best friends is a policemen, another one is a psychiatrist, and the third one goes mountain climbing on the weekends. You can bet that they have some good stories, but now I had some to share myself! With guerilla marketing, we do things like stage impromptu street parties, pose as members of various subcultures to promote products that would interest them, infiltrate demonstrations and chant slogans of our own, and many other things. It is almost like being a secret agent!

Of course, guerilla marketing isn’t all smoke and mirrors. There is a good bit of planning that goes into it as well. If you want to have a good viral marketing campaign of any sort, you need to really understand what ideas will spread and how they will spread. We draw on some very rigorous demographic research and even do focus groups at some points. That is what I like about the marketing and advertising firm that I work for: I still get to do the dry intellectual work, but I get to also go out in the field now. It is like having the best of both worlds!

This is always due to three things:

1. You are paying too much for your keywords
The way to reduce your cost per clicks is to create a more relevant landing page with LOTS of content on it, which is relevant to the keywords you’re bidding on. It really is that simple! If you’re paying too much it’s because either the keyword is way too broad (and therefore too competitively priced in the PPC market) or that Google doesn’t think your page is relevant (useful) to that specific keyword.

2. You are paying for the wrong keywords
Broad terms, terms that imply someone is doing their research etc…these are bad keyword to be spending money on. Instead, aim for keywords that are very specific (such as model numbers, product names) and also try to target keywords that imply that the person is on the verge of buying something. For example, “buy golf shoes”, “download eBook”, “software review”.

3. You are not converting visitors into buyers
This is a slightly more complex issue, but essentially involves a few key elements of time tested copywriting and direct response rules. These are:

- simplicity
Keep your webpages simple, easy to read & easy to understand.

- relevant keywords
Whatever keyword the visitor used to find your ad, (and ultimately your webpage) must be clearly visible on the webpage wherever possible. This will help the reader identify the page as relevant.

- visible links
Don’t be afraid to promote and sell! You really need to get your affiliate links in people’s line of vision. That’s the whole point and that’s what you’ve paid PPC costs to do!

- focused promotion
Stick to one promotion (one product) at a time, per page. Don’t confuse the readers with lots of offers, because multiple choices lead to no choices at all in most cases.

- easy on the eye colours
Don’t try and be the next Picasso, there’s no need to impress readers with your “art”. Just keep it simple and get them over to the affiliated website ASAP.

- simple navigation
If you’ve got a few pages to include, keep the titles “mystery free” and keep the navigation simple, so that at any point a reader can be just a few clicks from each page

- hype free, 3rd person reviews
Reviews are undoubtedly the most powerful way to convert visitors into buyers. This is because of many aspects, such as:

1. Firstly, the reader is in the buying stage.
2. Secondly, people react well to social proof (such as someone else giving their opinion)
3. Thirdly, it gives a soft presell of the product, without sounding biased or forcing the reader into one single action (they can always choose a different product in your review).

If you follow these 3 guidelines I can assure you that you’ll always be one step ahead of the competition when it comes to affiliate marketing.

Clearly, video is the wave of the future. And the best thing is… ANYBODY can use it. You don’t even need to own an expensive video camera, or be the least bit technical. I’ll post some resources at the end of this post to show you how.

A few weeks ago I decided I had to completely change the way I approach affiliate marketing, in fact all marketing online. I had no clue about how to make videos or how to market them but realized that if I did not get on board the Internet Marketing bandwagon then I was going to get left behind.

My results have been nothing short of staggering. You see not only am I making more money using these methods (admittedly in conjunction with traditional methods) but more importantly it is taking less time to do it. Now that is a revelation, well it is to me anyway.

So how did I go from knowing nothing to making money with videos? A web page can have more than one headline. The main headline is the one at the top of the page or article. It is called a H1 tag. Make sure keywords are included here. It is not out of the question for the headlines to bear more weight than paragraphs and other text.

A second or third headline, H2 and H3, may also be included. Just make sure to have the right keyword phrase included in each of these, as well.

Tip #2 Using Keywords In Body Text

The actual text on the page is also very important. Make sure the first lines of text have the most important keywords included. It is important to make sure the keywords are worked into the headline and the first few sentences on a page in a normal, natural way. Words should flow comfortably and not sound forced.

Having text on a page is more important than many realize. Search engines do not recognize keywords in javascript, graphics, flash or marquees. Pages that do best are between 100 and 400 words total. Web pages that only have images usually do not rank high on search engines, since they do not have text to index.

Tip #3 Page Title Keywords

Keywords can also help when they are added to the page Title. You will see the Title near the top of your HTML source code.

This is what appears in the browser window at the very top of the page above the menu. Most search engines display the Title as the top line in their listing. They have a propensity to list pages that have the searched keyword contained in the Title. Considering this, it is one of the most important parts of a page to include your primary keyword.

Tip #4 Image Names

Make sure Alt tags are added to image descriptions, in order to maximize your search engine optimization efforts. Doing so will also help the viewers experience in case any images don’t load.

However, never use more than 2 – 3 keywords in any one Alt tag. Also, don’t repeat the same keywords in different ALT tags. It’s best to use related keywords or even mispellings.
